Meditation is a state of deep relaxation that promotes harmony between the mind and body and originates from classic eastern traditions. Meditation is about focusing one’s attention for a period of time. This could be on an object such as a candle, sound or breath. Meditation has been found to reduce anxiety and depression, improve sleep, and improve cognition (our thoughts) and focus.
Meditation has also been found to positively influence our neurology and physiology by mediating behaviour functions. This occurs through a continuum of global regulatory changes in the brain that impact behaviours such as improving one’s quality of sleep.
Meditation and audio-visual relaxation training have also been found to significantly reduce anxiety and improve relaxation. Brain wave entrainment meditation using audio stimuli has been reported to change brainwave patterns to relieve stress, and headaches and improve mood.
